After connecting your tablet via USB or Bluetooth, it should show up when running dmesg as root and be listed in /proc/bus/input/devices. Both projects publish a list of supported devices: linux-wacom, DIGImend. linux-wacom supports Wacom devices, while DIGImend supports devices from other manufacturers.
